Micro Soccer (U6-U7)

What is Micro Soccer?

Micro soccer is a beginning developmental level designed to maximize player touch on the ball and fun.

At U6, the game is 3 aside, and teams are created with a target of 6 or 7 girls. At U7, we add a rotating goalie, playing 4 aside. Teams are created with 8 or 9 girls.

Working as a group is emphasized, with players being introduced to proper soccer teams.

Soccer season starts in September and ends in early March.

What Makes BGS Micro Soccer Unique?

  • Teams are formed by attempting to place girls from the same schools and neighborhoods if possible

  • Our team size is small, allowing each girl to have maximum play during games

  • Girls can request to be on the same team for subsequent years

  • Practices are 45 minutes to an hour, once a week after school, at an elementary school gym in North or South Burnaby

  • Games are 1 hour, indoors at Burnaby 8-Rinks Canlan on Sunday afternoons, between noon and 3pm

  • BGSC will host several jamborees, pizza parties and soccer festivals for these age groups to help young girls find new friends and enjoy their time with us

Notes: Placement is done on a first received, first placed basis. Requests for specific teams will be considered but not guaranteed. Placement is given to returning players on last year's team provided registration and payment is received by May 1st.

Parent Volunteers

At the Micro level, other than the Age-Group Coordinator, the relevant volunteer positions are the Coach, Assistant Coach, and Team Manager. Up to four volunteers can be “carded” so it’s possible for a team to have two assistant coaches to further share the responsibilities. Coaches and Assistant Coaches are responsible for running drills during practice and offering encouragement during games. Team Managers are responsible for communicating with the rest of the team on administrative issues.

Coaches and Assistant Coaches do not need prior experience at the U6/U7 level but must pass a Criminal Record Check and complete a Risk Management Form. We provide a coaching manual, opportunities for learning throughout the year, and support from the Mini/Micro Head Coach. In addition, coaches can get their coaching certification.

At the Micro level, drop-offs are not permitted at games or practices so why not volunteer?
